Walters and Barnard Win St.Croix Metric Mile Road Race… 12-15-07 St. Croix, Virgin Islands--The St. Croix Metric Mile Road is run on a flat course that has only one turn, a 90degree at St.John’s Episcopal Church in Estate Upper Love. The race, as is the case most of the time, is dominated by children who romp through the 1500 meter race. Seymour Walters of The St. Croix Educational Complex High School continued his success in cross-country winning the Saturday afternoon’s race with at time of 4 minutes and 18 seconds and putting in the position as favorite for the upcoming 3Kings Mile traditionally run at the start of the 3Kings Festival Parade. Duwayne Smith was the second place male with a time of 4:33 and David Walters was third in 4:38. Ninfa Barnard of the St.Croix Track Club was also continued her successful record in cross-country, the ECHS student took first place for females with a time of 5;03. Her challenge was early on in the race as Sherma Aurelein, second in 5:12, led the way for ¾ of the race; Mackiesh Taylor of ECHS was the third place female in 6:06. Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was the first male under 13 with a time of 5:28; Jelani Prince of Eulalera Elementry School was second in 6:01 and Casey Bergstrom was third in 6:10. Ninfa Barnard of the St. Croix Track Club (SCTC) had a strong performance as she emerges as the top school middle distance runner in the Territory, with a first place finish for females in 5:15; Mireille Smith, coach with SCTC, was second in 5:25; Zhondra Carty of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club (HFTC) was third in 6:18; Jazmine Willock of the HFTC was the fourth and the first female in the 13 and under category, in 6:39 and Rosa Clemente of HFTC was fifth overall and second in the group in 7:39; Mikaella Smith was sixth overall and third in the group in 7:41. Central High School Dominates Metric Mile The annual St. Croix Metric Mile over the distance of 1500 meters offers runners of all ages the chance to determine where their training for cross-country has taken them as they prepare for the indoor and outdoor track season. Juan Robles of St. Croix Central High School (CHS) appears to be on the right track as he cruised to victory in the race Saturday afternoon in Upper Love, St. Croix with a time of 4 minutes and 10 seconds. It was his third victory in a row for the annual race which was dominated this year by St. Croix Central HS runners. He ran six seconds faster than last year and 19 faster than three years ago. With exception of encountering a few pot holes, the point-to-point course is very fast. Mike Klein took second place with a time of 4:50 and Rabin Quintero of CHS also, took third in 4:57; Terry Castro of CHS was fourth in 4:58 and Tapia Cesar of CHS was fifth in 5:08. Dennis Vanterpool III was the first male under 13 in12:01 Earthla Augustin was the first place overall winner for female runners with a time of 5:48; Jochebed Harris of CHS was second in 6:05; Wyn Charlery was third in 6:49; Kyra Thomas was fourth in 7:02 and Jazmine Willocks was fifth in 7:11. Islands--Juan Robles of St. Croix Central High School won going away with
a time of 4 minutes and 16 seconds in the annual Virgin Islands Pace
Runners St. Croix Metric Mile Road Race. Thirty of the 31 runners in the
race chased Robles on the flat and fast Estate Upper Love road course
which is just slightly under the traditional mile distance. Hansel
Estepan of the St. Croix Educational Complex took second in the race with
a time of 4:40 and Dexter Hypolite also of the ECHS was third in 4:52;
Mike Klein a 20 year V.I. Pace Runners veteran, was fourth in 5:03 and
Eugene Washington of ECHS was fifth in 5:15.

Virgin Islands--Greg Johnson, a veteran runner who has represented the
Virgin Islands twice in the World Cross-Country Championships, beat
all-comers to the finish line Saturday in the annual St. Croix Metric Mile
with a time of 4 minutes 39 seconds. It was his first race of the year
and a hint that he is preparing for the World Masters Championships in
Puerto Rico next summer. Thirteen year old Troyson Raymond, V.I. Express
Track Club, was the second male finisher in 4:51.80; Burnell Smith of the
St.Croix Educational Complex was third in 4:52.65 and George Willock was
fourth 5:01.48; Charles Golphin Jr. of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was
fifth in 5:08.01. Pedro Morales lead the V.I. National Guard participants to the finish with a time of 5:12.53; Roy Vialet was second in 5:34.89 and Dalma Williams a veteran of V.I. Pace races and making a come back, was third in 5:42.00. Marcia Spencer was the first female National Guard finisher with a time of 6:16.22; Patrice Turner was second in 7:36. 74 and third was Carolyn Lanclos in 7:51.54.
