Cross Country Championships.... The University of the Virgin Islands  St.Croix

George Jules and Theresa Harper Win Veterans Day 5K

November 12, 2001--St.Croix, Virgin Islands--George Jules was up for the occasion as he dominated the 18th Veterans Day 5K Cross-Country Race, winning in a time 17 minutes 34 seconds.  Leopold Fredericks was second in 18:31 and Amalee Lockhart nipped his St.Croix Educational Complex High School track teammate, Hondo Freeman at the line to take third place in 19:51.63 and first place in the High School category.

Theresa Harper defended her first place finish last year with a time of 21:51, Earthla Arthur, a French Teacher at the Educational Complex HS was second in 24:33; Evelise Gomez of the St.Croix Educational Complex was third in 24:36 and first place in the High School Category.

This year the event served as the V.I.Cross-Country Championships and the 4-H Cross-Country Series Championships, an event for school runners.  The event was hosted by the UVI Student Council

Lockhart & Harper take first in Veterans Day Cross-Country Race

11/11/00 St.Croix, Virgin Islands--Lawrence Lockhart, only a week from representing the Virgin Islands in the World Junior Track & Field Championships in Santiago, Columbia, took first place in the 17th Annual Veterans Day 5K Cross-Country race held at the University of the Virgin Islands St.Croix Campus. A group of four were together for the relatively slow first lap on the three-lap 3.1 mile course. Lockhart put distance between them near the end of 2 miles and cruised to the finish with a time of 17 minutes and 57 seconds. Jonathan Letang was second in 18:55 and Jabari Goodwin third in 19:38.

Theresa Harper, a teacher at St.Croix Country Day School, outclassed the group of high school track runners by winning the female category in 21:48; Earthla Arthur, a French teacher at the Education Complex, where many of the participants in the race are students, was second in 23:57 and Balbarie Lopez was third in 24:46.
