Children Run Christiansted foot race mix it up at jump up

5/5/2013 St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Added to the excitement of having the entirety of King St. to run and in front of a captive audience participating in the annual Triathlon Jump Up, a 130 runners ages 2 to 13 weren’t even aware of the near possibility that the 15^th annual running of the Virgin Islands Pace Runners “Children Run Christiansted” could be at least rerouted or worst be canceled all together. It wasn’t to be and as it were the race was on.

Skylar Ingraham-Smith the 4 year old daughter of Wendy Ingraham (Wendy has finished in the top five in the St. Croix Triathlon several times over the years) was first to show up for the registration with her parents and got race bib number “1”. She warmed up for the race by satisfying her curiosity seeking a closer look a Tyme Square Rooster.

A surprise personality at the start was Saba Johnson the two-time V.I. Olympian who 1990 became the first African-American Olympic skier; she was tapped on the spot as the official starter for the race. She gave a few words of encouragement to runners.

The Lamar Miller of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club and Jett Plaska of Country Day School ensured that the 15^th running of the event would be a memorable one as they cover the 535 meter course from Tyme Square to the Scale House of the Christiansted National Park in 1:23 seconds to make the first tie in the race’s history. On their heels was Valance Modeste of the St. Croix Track Club who was third in 1:26; Jerimiah DeIrish of Freewill Baptist School was fourth in 1:29 and Trejon Ali was fifth in 1:33. These runners took the top five honors in the11-13 year old age group.

Rachael Conhoff of the St. Croix Track Club and Country Day School had an impressive fifth place overall finish and first for females with a time of 1:31; Stephanie Matthew of the St. Croix Track Club was second in 1:34; Mikeala Smith also of the St. Croix Track Club was third in 1:35; Tyannah Lake of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was fourth in 1:46 and Michele Smith of St. Croix Track Club was fifth in 1:55.

A new age group was added this year for 1 to 7 boys and girls in addition to 8 to 10 and 11 to 13 groups. Michelle Smith (1:55) of the St. Croix Track Club won the 1 to 7 female age group and Tyronne Lake (1:57) of the Hounds and Foxes won the male 1 to 7 age group. Tyannah Lake (1:46) of the St. Croix Track Club won the 8-10 female age group and Rafael Jackson (1:51) of the St. Croix Track Club for the male 8-10 group. Runners were awarded ribbons and certificates.

Notes:

1] Runners who for any reason did not get their time and place recorded or receive their race certificate, should contact their coach or the V.I.Pace Runners.

2] The Children Run Christiansted completed its 15^th year this year. Previously this race was known as the King St. Dash and was open to runners of all ages. This race and the Paradise 5k provide pre-triathlon introduction to the course and have been held every year along with the triathlon. The first year there was a relay race for runners at the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. These events were originated and organized by the Virgin Islands Pace Runners.

3] Special thanks to the Virgin Waste Management Authority, The Virgin Islands Fire Department, The V.I. Police Department and Benton Construction for making sure the emergency sewer line problem at the start line of the race was remedied in time for the race start. Also thanks go to the volunteers for the race and the National Park Service for granting the permit for the event.

The Children Run Christiansted...
Faster than Triathletes...

May 4, 2012--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--A record number of boys and girls in the 14^th Annual Children Run Christiansted race with male winner Nyhne Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club 1 minute 21 seconds and the female winner Stephanie Matthew of the St. Croix Track Club 1:35 leading the way.

It was the kick-off of the annual Triathlon Jump-Up which takes place on the streets and it was very close. Daniel took the lead early and finished the course which slightly over 500 meters. Rodney Griffin SCTC was second in 1:28 and Adriel Sanes of HFTC was third in 1:30.

Stephanie Matthew held off Mikaela Smith SCTC who finished second in 1:41 and Rachel Conrad finished third in 1:53.

Notes:
1] Over 100 boys and girls in two age groups (13 and under and 9 and under) participated in the event.
2] With the overwhelming number of participants, the registration process met limitations and therefore, next year there will be online and pre-registration.
3] There were a number of runners who participated in the race but did not receive a time because of the high number of entrants that could not be officially registered in time for the start of the race.
4] A third category will be added next year for boys and girls to accommodate even younger participants.
5] Sponsors will be sought next year to insure the tradition that no entry fee is required.

The 13th Annual Children Run Christiansted Road Race...

Dozens of boys and girls dashed down historic King St. in Christiansted at sunset on Friday to kick-off Triathlon Jump-up.

4-29-2011--St.Croix, Virgin Islands--Malique Smith (13 yr. old) of the St.Croix Track Club led the way with a race record 1 minute and 18 seconds over a distance of a 510 meters (that comes out to a 3:57 mile pace!). The versatile Smith, the top youth middle distance runner in the V.I., just returned earlier in the week from Jamaica where he competed in the CARIFTA Junior Championships in track and field for the first time. In Friday’s race the next three finishers all ran under 1:30 as the battle between Rodney Griffin 2^nd in1:26 of the SCTC and Adriel Sanes 3^rd in 1:26 of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club and Nyhne Daniel 4^th 1:28 of SCTC came down to the wire.

Nya Jack of the Hounds and Foxes led the way for the girls with a time of 1:31 as she edged close to the race record and finished 5^th overall in the fun and exciting race. Stephanie Matthew of the St.Croix Track Club was 2^nd in 1:37, Annika Benders of SCTC was 3^rd in1:38.

Mikaela Smith 1:40 and Valence Modeste 1:40 both 9 years old and with the St.Croix Track Club were the leaders of respective girls and boys under 10 age-groupers. They finished 10^th and 11^th overall!

NOTES:

1] Just before the start of the race at Sunday Market Square (AKA Times Square), the youngsters were treated with a surprise appearance of two of the world’s top triathletes: Miranda Carfrae, the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii and Catriona Morrison the 2010 winner of the St.Croix Ironman 70.3 Triathlon. The led the group with a warm-up drill and shared a few pointers on competing. They will compete in Sunday’s St.Croix Ironman 70.3.

2] Since the beginning of the big triathlon in St.Croix in 1988 when it was The America’s Paradise Triathlon, featured pre-triathlon events giving local athletes the chance to run and bike and swim with the visiting pro triathletes and the many age-groupers anxious to take a shot at conquering St.Croix’s Beauty and the Beast. One of the two featured events is the Children Run Christiansted. Initially this run down Christiansted’s historic King St., was known as the King St. Dash and was a 600m foot race from the Times Square area to the Scale House which is where the triathlon finishes. In its 13^th year, it is now known as the Children Run Christiansted, a race over 510m for boys and girls 13 and under. The other featured event is the Paradise 5K which is run on Thursday’s of triathlon week at the Buccaneer Resort.

3] The 13^th Annual Children Run Christiansted was sponsored by: Massive Promotions and Consultants; Budget Car Rental and Senator Craig Barshinger. The event was organized by The Virgin Islands Pace Runners and sanctioned by the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation and facilitated by the National Park Service. Over 80 do 12th Annual Children Run Christiansted foot Race...St. Croix Track Club dominates...

30-04-10--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--The Children Run Christiansted is a foot race for children, it starts at the Sunday Market Square (Time Square) in Christiansted and continues down King St. to the Scale House and National Park Service. It’s one the annual events leading up to the 70.3 Ironman Triathlon. This year 80 children, the largest group ever, ages 13 and under took part and earned awards for two categories, 13 and under and 9 and under.

For the boys 13 and under, Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was the first place overall finisher and his time over the 630 meters course was 1 minute 24 seconds; Rodney Griffin also of the SCTC was second in 1:35; Jett Glaschka Country Day School was third in 1:45; Zane Zepplhar was fourth in 1:56 and William Galiber CDS was fifth in 1:59.

Britney Sage SCTC was the first female finished first and fifth overall with a time of 1:43; Yudelka Acevedo SCTC was second in 1:47; Keshandra Quinn was third in 1:59 Dominique Willock SCTC was fourth in 2:02 and Indiah Evans SCTC was fifth in 2:05.

For the boys under 10 years old, Valence Modeste of the St. Croix Track Club was first in 1:45; Alec Kypers was second in 1:57; Dominik Puglise CDS was third in 1:59; Taylor Hasson was fourth 2:00 and Slade Zeppuhar was fifth2:09.

Nine year old Stephanie Mathew of the St. Croix Track Club finished first in the under ten girl and third overall in the race with time of 1:40; Annika Benders SCTC finished second and fourth overall in the race in 1:40; Four Victoria Sperber finished third in 1:52; Carley Foster of Country Day School finished fourth in 2:07 and Shawna Dean St. Croix Dolphins finished fifth in 2:08

The 11th Annual

Children Run Christiansted...

May 1, 2009 St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Dozens of youngsters participated in the 11^th Annual Children Run Christiansted, a run for boys and girls 13 years old under and under 10 years of age. The race kicks off the Triathlon Jump Up and is 630 meter dash down King St. from Times Square (Sunday Market Square) to the Scale House at the National Park. Hundreds of cheering spectators along the route saw just under 70 runners ranging from age three to 13 cross the finish line.

It was the closest finish ever for first place Curtis Walker of Country Day School was the overall first place finisher with a time of 1 minute and 27 seconds; Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was second in in 1:27 just 2 hundredths of a second separated them; Jahreim Luke of St. Joseph’s School was third in 1:34.

Jasmine Willock was the first female finisher, her time was 1:39; Precious Wathley was second in 1:43; Othania Johannes of the St. Croix Track Club was third in 1:47

In the under 10 age group, Mikaela Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was first runner in the group in 1:48; Annika Benders was the second girl in 1:53 and Stephanie Mathew of SCTC was third in 1:56

Felix Denis of Church of God School was the first male under 10 in 1:48; Sevon Washington of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was second in 1:52 and Valence of SCTC was third in 1:53.

Children Run Christiansted foot race mix it up at jump up...

5-3-2008--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--The V.I. Pace Runners announced today that it continued to celebrate its 30^th Anniversary with the annual Children Run Christiansted foot race which kicks off the St.Croix Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Jump-Up, had this year as there were over 80 registered runners.

The first place finisher overall and first female was Dana Charles of Reading Rainbow. Dana is 13 and ran the 630 meters from Sunday Market Square to the Customs House down King St. in 1 minute and 36 seconds. The second place finisher and first male was Cameron Hess of Country Day School., his time was 1:39; Third and the second male was Quinton Harvey of Reading Rainbow with a time of 1:40; fourth and the second female was Jazimine Willock of the St.Croix Track Club in 1:40; fifth and the third place male was Curtis Walker of Country Day School in 1:41; sixth and the third place female was Geanaly Anslyn of Reading Rainbow in 1:42

In the under 10 group, the first place finisher was D’Quan Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club in 1:52; second was Felix Denis of Church of God Holiness in 1:55; third was Jamari Daley Eulalie Rivera Elementary School in 2:02. For the girls the first place finisher was Deneah Carr of Reading Rainbow in 2:03; second was Gabriel Killy in 2:08; third was Domique Willock of St.Croix Track Club in 2:09.

May 4, 2007, St.Croix, Virgin Islands--Christopher Wilson of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club led a field of 60 plus children 13 and under and 9 and under from Sunday Market Square at the top of King St. to the Scale House in the National Park, the same route the finishers of the St. Croix Half-Ironman Triathlon will take on Sunday; Christopher the 630 meters in 1minute and 33 seconds. Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was the second place finisher over all and the first 9 and under runner in the race, his time was 1:37; Christele Blanc of HFTC was the first female finisher and third place overall, her time was 1:39.9; Karen Dascent of the St. Croix Track Clube was the second place female in the 13 and under group with a time of 1:41; Kahlid Behamon of Iqra Academy was the second place finisher in the 13 and under boys group in 1:42.2; Jasmine Willocks of the HFTC was the third place female 13 and under girls in 1:43.6 and Cameron Hoss of St.Croix Country Day School was the third place boy in 1:47.8

Malique Smith was followed by Barthalemy Peter of the Church of God Holiness School for second place in the 9 and under boys, his time was 1:47.0; third place went Shayquan Grant of the HFTC in 1:49.4. For the girls 9 and under, Shamiyah Burke of HFTC was the first place finisher in 1:52.8; second place went to Mikaela Smith of the SCTC in2:01.8 and Anna Robacker of CDS was third in 2:07.1.

The runners ages ranged from 3 years to 13. Hundreds of onlookers gearing up for the Jump Up cheered the group as they made their way to finish. The race distance is 630 meters.

April 30, 2005, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Samantha Smith of The St.Croix Country Day School was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 7^th Annual Children Run Christiansted Foot Race with a time 1 minute and 44 seconds over the 630meter race. Kalif Gerard was the first male to finish with a time of 1:49. The race for children under 13, kicked off the Triathlon Jump Up and gave the youngsters the opportunity to be real part of the triathlon weekend as they stopped the traffic and attracted spectators along the race route from Sunday Market Square to the Scale House in Christiansted, the finish route for Sundays Half-Ironman Triathlon. The youngest runners were Chenille Hendricks and Logan Harris both 3 years old.

May 1, 2003, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Mackiesh Taylor was the overall winner of the 5th Annual Children Run Christiansted road race. In addition she was the 13 and under girls category winner in a time of 1 minute and 30 seconds. Anika Grant was second in 1:41 and Semantha Smith was third in 1:53. Second place overall and 13 and under boys category was Kendall Joseph in a time of 1:37; Dustin Kendricks was second in 1:46 and Will Piel was third in 1:54. Troyson Raymond Defends his Children Run Title

May 3, 2002, St. Croix, Virgin Islands---The Children Run Christiansted, a 630 meter run down King St. in Historic Christiansted and the same route the top triathletes in the world will run to the finish of the Half-Ironman Triathlon on Sunday,. Troyson Raymond took the honors for 13 and under boys for the second year in a row and ran a very fast 1 minute and 29 seconds. Nine year old Allison Peter, her first time in the race, was the first female to finish and the second finisher overall, in a time of 1:45. Amallee Thompson took second place for the boys in 2:03; Chelcie Goldman took first place for the girls 13 and under in 1:47; Shamica Thomas was third in 1:57. Alex Bradbury won the 9 and under boys race in 1:58, Jelani Rollins was second ain 2:04 and Joseph Thomas was third in 2:14. Skei Swanston was the second place finisher for girls 9 and under in 2:31; Bren Goldman was third in 2:35.
